Welcome home to Disney’s Pop Century Resort!
This bright and colorful value resort boasts theming that spans popular decades from the 1950s to the 1990s, celebrating the way people lived, worked, and communicated. Larger-than-life icons dot the landscape, and music piped in to each section help immerse you in that genre.
Disney Imagineers worked with some of the original manufacturers to recreate the resort’s icons, which include a giant Mickey phone, Rubik’s cube, and Mr. Potato Head. Original toys and objects were obtained and then digitized. A machine then created a full-size foam replica based on the exact measurements of the icon. Fiberglass covers the foam, which was then replaced with a steel armature. The final covering completed the creation of the icon.
Pop Century opened in 2003, and was originally called Pop Century – the Classic Years. There was to be a sister resort built called Pop Century – the Legendary Years, which would span the 1900s-1940s. The two resorts were to be connected by Generation Gap Bridge across Hourglass Lake. Construction on the Legendary Years was halted for a time; plans changed and that “sister” resort became a completely separate resort: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. The bridge is still there, so guests can wander the grounds and enjoy the food courts at each resort (though sorry — no pool hopping allowed!).
The rooms at this Value Resort were all refurbished in 2018 and now feature a Queen size bed and a Queen size Table bed that pulls down from the wall. (They used to only have Full-size Beds in the rooms.)
There is ample storage in the rooms, too. You’ll find plenty of USB plugs for charging your devices, and a split bathroom makes it easy for multiple people to get ready at the same time. Rooms now feature coffeemakers in addition to mini fridges, and room service is available for an additional fee. There is bus transportation to all parks.
