Changes come to Disney Parks and Destinations all the time! Each month brings something new. New restaurants, limited-time celebrations, character experiences or resort upgrades and expansions. The people at Disney are always, always seeking to improve guest experiences. Sometimes improving that experience includes rules created for guests’ protection.
No selfie-sticks allowed!
In May 2015 Disney began restricting the use of selfie-sticks and similar expandable poles that hold your phone to take photos or videos. Guests were asked not to use them on select rides and roller coasters. Unfortunately, too many guests did not comply with these restrictions. Rides had to be shut down and delayed on a number of occasions. Disney was forced to, for the safety of all guests, ban them all together later that year.

Selfie sticks aren’t the only things banned from Disney parks; they’re just one of the most recent members to the club. All persons, bags, parcels, clothing and other items may be subject to screening and checks at park entrances and even within the parks. Disney reserves the right to not allow anything into the parks that they consider inappropriate or unsafe.
You may want to consult this list the next time you’re packing, just so you’re not forced to abandon some things with Security.
Things Banned From Disney Parks
WHEELS: Strollers, wheelchairs, and ECVs (Electronic Convenience Vehicles) are obviously welcome, but most other wheeled items are not. Such as …
- Wagons and Trailers
- Skateboards
- Scooters
- Sneakers with wheels
- Suitcases
- Wheeled Coolers (small non-wheeled coolers for medications are permitted)
- Mobility Devices with fewer than three wheels
SELECT RECREATIONAL DEVICES: This is where the selfie-sticks fall, but there are a few others.
- Selfie-sticks
- Drones
- Remote Control toys
OVERSIZED ITEMS: Some items that are normally acceptable may be restricted if they’re too large. Here are a few examples:
- Bags larger than 24″ (61 cm) long x 15″ (38 cm) wide x 18″ (46 cm) high
- Professional grade photography or video equipment (Permits may be obtained.)
- Tripods or monopod stands that will not fit in a standard backpack
ANYTHING “potentially HARMFUL or DISRUPTIVE”: This is a rather vague rule, but it includes items such as:
- Weapons
- Alcoholic beverages
- Illegal substances
- Pets (Service animals are permitted.)
- Glass Containers (except baby food jars)
- Costumes (on anyone over 14 years old) except for Halloween parties and runDisney events
- Folding chairs
- Masks (other than for medical purposes)
ANIMAL KINGDOM BANS: For the safety of the animals, there are a few items banned from Animal Kingdom that are permitted in the other parks. This list includes:
- Balloons
- Straws
- Drink lids
