Have you ever wanted to take a vacation with just one of your kids? You should!
My 13-year-old daughter, Katie, and I recently experienced our first Disney Cruise together aboard the Disney Dream, and the memories we made are PRICELESS!!  Here are some highlights of our adventures.

Characters and Activities

Pirate Night was a ton of fun – great stage show, a buffet, and fireworks over our heads!! The highlight of Pirate Night was … Meeting Pirate Mickey, of course!!

There are Character Meet N Greets all over the ship. Schedules can be found using the on-board Navigator app; you can purchase wi-fi on board, but the app works even if you decide not to. I really wanted to unplug so we did not purchase the internet package. Best decision ever to really reconnect with my teen!

Pools, Food, and Relaxation

We loved relaxing poolside – no cell phones to interfere with great conversations –  also enjoyed bottomless iced tea and soft serve ice cream – yum!! Katie got her beloved Dole Whip! There are movies shown on the big screen above the pool.

When we were hungry we went to Cabanas, the all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet restaurant just steps from the pool.

The best days start with Mickey waffles!!

Each evening Katie and I thoroughly enjoyed Broadway-style stage shows followed by a luxurious dinner. No prices on the menus since it’s all prepaid, so order as much as you want!

We took the opportunity to try some new things – because why not?? Katie’s most memorable appetizer by far was escargot. She ended her fancy meal with a Mickey bar.

Time together and time apart!

Katie and I enjoyed a lot of together time, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world — but I also wanted to explore the adults-only sections of the ship, so off to Edge, the club for young teens, Katie went! She reported she had a great time playing Virtual Reality and meeting other kids her age.

After I walked around The District, the adults-only bar/lounge area, I enjoyed a relaxing soak in the adults-only pool……and yes, that is a swim-up bar you see!

Disney’s Private Island: Castaway Cay

Our 3-night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral aboard the Disney Dream included a stop at Disney’s private island: Castaway Cay. Katie and I agreed this was the highlight of our trip.

We rented snorkels, tubes, and bikes to explore the island. We are not

ones to just sit around and relax, but if you are, there is plenty of that to do on Castaway Cay!

Lunch is served on the island so you can enjoy 7-8 hours off the ship. Disney really makes it easy to find your way around, and they take care of all of your basic and not-so-basic needs. We even saw a wedding on the beach!

After our cruise Katie and I extended our vacation with a trip to Walt Disney World. This was very easy to do, thanks to Disney transportation. We lead such busy lives it was very nice to slow down, unplug, and just play!
