It’s safe to bet I’m not the only one ready to say “goodbye” to 2020 and move on to next year. If you’re thinking of visiting the Walt Disney World Resort in 2021, be ready for a few changes coming our way!
A lot of things are different now, but Walt Disney World still offers a ton of magic! Click here for a post about what was new in 2020. As for 2021 … We always expect new attractions and dining options! This next year will not disappoint as we already know about a number of new experiences heading to the parks in the next year or so. And, of course, preparations are underway for the Magic Kingdom’s 50th anniversary celebration — most notably the new paint job of Cinderella Castle. WOW.
Those are all exciting things that will impact your vacation EXPERIENCE, but there are also some changes coming that could impact your vacation PLANNING. Let’s look at three of those.
1. Park Hopping is coming back!
You heard that right! Park Hopping will return to the Walt Disney World theme parks effective January 1st, 2021. Guests who purchase tickets with Park Hopper benefits will be able to visit more than one park per day next year! Naturally, there will be some new modifications as part of the ongoing focus on health and safety.
If the flexibility of being able to leave one theme park and visit another on the same day is an option you’d like to have, you’ll want to be sure to add Park Hopper to your theme park tickets or vacation package. Talk with your travel agent for details.
2. MagicBands are no longer complimentary.
Another change that goes into effect January 1st … Complimentary MagicBands will no longer be offered to guests staying at on-site Walt Disney World hotels. These special guests will still be able to purchase MagicBands at discounted pricing.
Do you enjoy the convenience of MagicBands? Most MagicBands are good for at least two years. If you have some already in your home, you may be able to re-use them for your next trip. OR put a little extra money in your budget to purchase new ones.
3. Blizzard Beach Water Park will be re-opening soon!
When the Walt Disney World theme parks re-opened last July (after the COVID-19 closures), the two water parks — Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon — did not. They have remained closed, but that’s about to change.
Disney has recently announced that Blizzard Beach will reopen March 7th, 2021! It has not yet been released when Typhoon Lagoon will reopen, but we hope it won’t be too far behind.
If spending a day at Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon is on your Disney World “must do” list, be sure to select dates that fall after that important opening dates.
